服务

The Central/Eastern NY 铅中毒 Resource Center is part of a statewide network of regional resource centers that provide expertise in pediatric lead poisoning. Our three main services focus on medical management, education, and primary prevention.

  • 医疗管理

The resource center is available to provide consultation to health care providers for the ongoing follow-up of lead exposed children and pregnant women as well as:

    • Facilitation of medical management including chelation in home communities with support and consultation
    • Review of patients with elevated blood lead levels with participating county health departments
    • Technical assistance to hospitals and medical facilities to establish procedures for treating lead poisoning
  • 教育

Health care providers and families need to know that children remain at risk for lead exposure. The resource center provides educational outreach to professional and community organizations and would be happy to come talk to your staff regarding lead poisoning or offer additional information on a related topic of interest.

  • 一级预防

The resource center supports the efforts of community-based programs to initiate primary prevention projects and works closely with each county health department. Continuing research about the effects of lead on young children reveals that even low levels of lead in the blood is harmful to infants, 蹒跚学步的, and pre-school age children. It is crucial that sources of lead exposure be identified before children are exposed. The main source of lead exposure in New York State continues to be from residential paint, which was permitted to contain lead until 1978. 在NYS, houses built prior to 1978 are estimated to account for over 75% of the states occupied housing units, making the potential for lead exposure widespread. 因此, following the NYS Department of Health mandate to test all children at ages 1 and 2 is essential.

Please contact us if you have a question regarding the medical management of a child or pregnant woman who has been exposed to lead or if you would like to schedule an educational presentation.
